800th Anniversary of the Great Mongolian Empire
This year we are going to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Mongolian Empire. According to a decree from the President and a Government Act the year 2006 will be dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the Great Empire created by Chinggis Khan.
This anniversary is significant not just for Mongolia but also for the world. For this reason the United Nations has decided to make the celebrations global and events are planned throughout the year.
On the 1st of January at 12 O’clock the President of Mongolia, Speaker of Parliament, and Prime minister officially announced in a ceremony at Sukhbaatar Square that the 800th anniversary of the Great Mongolian Empire had begun.
In this manner the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Great Mongolian Empire commenced.
A special meeting of parliament will be organized to honor this anniversary. Many important cultural and scientific meetings and seminars with local and international participants will also take place in Mongolia throughout the year. On the 31st of December 2006, state leaders will judge the effectiveness and results of the anniversary celebrations.
Many Mongolians believe that this anniversary provides an important opportunity for the younger generation to learn more about the great Khans of Mongolia and that it will generate respect for the elder generation. They also believe that it will develop patriotism, good behavior; and respect for national and traditional culture.
